As I mentioned a while back I have been focusing on the future of Wamp Designs and where I want to take it. I’ve done a lot of brainstorming and reflection. Instead of taking on EVERYTHING that could compass graphic design and I have found my niche in Party Designs.
This includes: Invitations, Thank You Cards, Banners, Game Cards, Cupcake Toppers, Tent Cards, etc.
Since I’ve decided on this re-focus I thought it was a fitting to push my brand in that direction as well. I’ve been working on this for a little while now and I am finally ready to share it all with you. I am rolling the re-brand out in a couple stages – to save my sanity.
August 1st – Logo {Done}
August 8th – Brand Voice & Brand Values {This Post}
August 15th – Social Media
August 22nd – Brand Elements & Website
While this post is all about my Brand Voice and Brand Values I did want to share something a little fun with you.
My New Style Guide
Don’t you just love all the bright colors?? It makes me feel so joyful – which is what parties should do right!?!
Moving on …
With all the Brand / Re-Branding posts and information out there I decided to go with Moriah Riona’s take on it. I found the way she helped you figure this stuff out what fun and enlightening. For your brand voice she had you fill in this phrase:
I do/make/help/offer/give/create ________(what)________ for ________(who)________ because _______(why)_______.
Which lead me to:
“I create party invitations and decor for busy {or non crafty} hostesses because it brings me joy to help others beautify their events”
I really loved this because it helped me narrow my focus on what I do to help people as well as give me an elevator pitch! Having always struggled with explaining what I do in a direct, condensed manor this was a major help. Lets face it, as creative entrepreneurs it is sometimes difficult to explain to people what you do.
Up next is defining my Brand Values, this part was my absolute favorite. Moriah had us follow these prompts:
Write down 3 brands that you admire // Example: Apple, Paul Mitchell, M.A.C.)
With single word answers (nouns), write down the qualities you admire about these brands // Example: Innovation, Compassion, Artistry
Now, write the names of 3 people whom you admire // Choose friends, family members, leaders in your community or public figures.
Repeat step two, this time for the people on your list
Finally write your own name
Repeat step two again, this time writing values that you admire in yourself and ones that you aspire to
……………………………………………………………………………………………………..
Below is what I came up with:
Martha Stewart Brand: Informative, Creative, Authority
Magnolia Brand: Wholesome, Cohesive, Clean, Fresh
Banana Republic: Clean, Simple, Quality
JoAnna Gaines {duh}: Wholesome, Family Oriented, Creative
Jillian Harris: Cohesive, Funny, Casual
My Husband: Hard-Working, Achieves Goals, Risk Taker
Jessica: Creative, Selfless, Organized, Helpful
……………………………………………………………………………………………………..
From there you are to pick out the values that stand out to you or repeat themselves. I chose:
Informative Creative Cohesive Quality
Informative: I inform people on the etiquette of events for both hosts & guests.
Creative: I find creative ways to make each event special & personal through my products.
Cohesive: I help people make their events cohesive and beautiful.
Quality: I provide quality products to enhance the visual appeal of people’s events.
Then simple as that I have my brand voice and values. This exercise really helped me focus in on what I provide to people and how I want Wamp Designs to be perceived. It was actually a fun way to do it as well.
I’ve been hard at work on the next phase of Wamp Designs … Party Kits!! I’m super excited to share them with you – keep an eye out on September 1st!!
I LOVE your transparency and authenticity! And what an incredible way to find your voice and core values! I having been working on fine-tuning some things in my brand lately, and I definitely want to go through the exercises you modeled here. Thanks for sharing!
